MANAGING CONFLICT & BUILDING CONFLICT RESOLUTION SKILLS

Beginning Tuesday, April 2, 2024

(Separate groups for pre-teens & teens)

This FREE group is a 6-week support group designed to help teens & preteens foster a deeper understanding of conflict and learn appropriate and healthy ways to better manage and resolve conflict in their interpersonal relationships, family, and friends.

Changes in friendships, family dynamics, and relationships can sometimes cause friction and conflict that can be difficult to know how to navigate appropriately. In this group, participants will find a safe and supportive environment to explore their concerns without judgment, gain tools, and tangible skills to immediately navigate these issues better,  as well as build skills that will translate to many different scenarios throughout the rest of their lives.

Weekly topics include:

  • Tips for how to communicate effectively
  • Boundaries and how to implement boundaries
  • What makes a relationship healthy
  • What forgiveness looks like after conflict
  • What healthy vs unhealthy conflict looks like

Do you (or your pre-teen/teen):

Struggle with conflict between peers, friends, family or coworkers?

Feel a need to connect to others experiencing similar things?

Like to expand knowledge and build skills for healthy conflict resolution?

At the end of our 6-week journey, you’ll take away:

  • Skills for how to communicate in a healthy & effective way
  • Confidence in communicating your needs, opinions, and perspectives
  • Tips on how to incorporate boundaries in relationships
  • Hands on tools to better manage conflict in all your interpersonal relationships
  • Increased positive, supportive connection
  • Improved sense of confidence in yourself and relationships

Emma White, Social Work Intern

Meet your group leaders:

Hi! I’m Emma White. I am currently studying at Mizzou, and working on my master’s in social work with a clinical focus, and plan to become a therapist one day.  I love working with kids, pre-teens and teens, and being a part of one’s support network. I am excited to bring this group to the Columbia community because I know that group therapy can be a powerful and rewarding experience for many, especially teens that may not otherwise feel there are very many safe and supportive spaces.
